Transition and College Preparation
Transition and College Preparation
The Transition Specialist assists students as they develop the skills and knowledge necessary for future success. All students have the opportunity to engage in the college application process, career exploration, internships and community service opportunities. The Transition Specialist provides access to college and vocational institutions through fairs, visits to schools, and dual enrollment courses. Typically, 80% of graduates pursue post-secondary education immediately following graduation.
Transition services can also include preparation for students to return to their community schools. Plans for this type of transition are discussed well in advance with students, their parents, Arlington School faculty, and the sending school district. When a student advocates a return to a less restrictive setting, the academic and clinical faculty make recommendations based on the following criteria:
• a student’s capacity to improve and manage academic and emotional expectations
• a student’s ability to keep academic and emotional pace with peers
• a student’s capacity to handle routine classroom pressure
The Transition Specialist sets placement goals, based on these criteria, with students that are reviewed in team meetings.
