The Arlington School Library is an important center in the academic life of the school. The library supports the curriculum of Arlington School and also meets the recreational and informational needs of both students and staff. A professional Library Media Specialist staffs the library.
Students come to the library to conduct research, to find a book or magazine for class or for recreational reading, to use computers for research on the internet or for word processing, to work on a paper or project, to catch up on homework, to watch a videotape on the new flat screen television, or to work individually or in a small group with the librarian for a specific purpose. The librarian also conducts classes in the library for study skills, research classes, and special needs Reading/English Language Arts classes as needed. In addition, the librarian is responsible for supervising students who participate in distance-learning classes. The library is sometimes a place to come for quiet reflection or it can be a lively environment, depending upon the activities taking place.
The Arlington School Library was completely renovated in the summer of 2008, making the library a bright and attractive space for both learning and recreation. The renovations included new shelving, furniture, lighting, rugs, updated resources including DVD’s and graphic novels, a flat-screen television, and nine laptop computers. The laptops can be checked out for student use anywhere in the building. In general, the library serves as a valuable resource to accommodate the many needs of our special adolescent population.
