The Arlington School is a private high school for students with academic, social and emotional challenges, nationally recognized for its integration of strong academics and clinical support. Since 1961, the Arlington School has provided a safe and supportive community where students grow academically and heal and thrive emotionally. Here students can assume greater control over their learning and work to achieve their personal goals.
Arlington School's core values—discovery, flexibility, empathy, respect, tolerance, patience, and courage—serve as the framework for our learning community. We believe that change is possible for every student, that learning renews self-worth, and that our students can overcome the challenges that impede their success.
The Arlington School offers a full college preparatory curriculum, aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, and leading to a high school diploma. Students often undertake college course work and distance learning courses as part of their academic program. Personal attention is the hallmark of the Arlington School.
Our educational programs are individually designed according to each student’s ability, goals and circumstances.
Clinical services, including groups and counseling support, are an integral part of a highly individualized program for each student. Teachers and clinical staff work closely with therapists and schools in the community to address the academic, emotional and behavioral issues that have disrupted a student's previous schooling.
The arts are central at the Arlington School. We offer a full studio art curriculum, ceramics, photography, digital media arts, computer graphics, drama and creative writing.
We are accredited by NEASC and by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as an approved special needs program. All students have access to transition counseling to assist with post high school plans. Our graduates have moved on to four-year colleges, two-year colleges, vocational training programs and full-time careers.
