Counseling Groups
Counseling groups are an important part of the clinical services students receive while at Arlington School. They are held once a week, on Tuesday. All students are required to participate in small groups.
The goal of the counseling groups is for students to be able to support each other in developing the awareness and skills necessary to be more effective in their lives at school and at home. Groups are most effective when members attend regularly, participate actively, are respectful of each other, and maintain confidentiality. Many topics across groups will overlap and all groups are DBT informed. Students are able to elect the group they wish to participate in.
Current groups offered are:
DBT Group: This is a DBT skills group. Members will explore and practice and skills of mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. Previous knowledge of DBT is not required.
Wellness Group: This is a group that focuses on the person as a whole, specifically, mind, body and lifestyle. Possible topics include nutrition and exercise, yoga and relaxation, relationships and sexuality, and the effects of lifestyle choices.
Guys Group: Members of this group support each other in exploring topics of particular interest to young men. It is an opportunity to examine relationships and men’s roles in society.
Girls Group: Members of this group support each other in exploring topics of particular interest to young women. It is an opportunity to examine relationships and women’s roles in society.
Relationships Group: This group explores dynamics within various relationships in the lives of teenagers. The focus is on developing interpersonal skills, improving communication in relationships, and fostering the development of healthy relationships.
