Clinical Team

The clinical case management team comprises two psychologists, two social workers, a school adjustment counselor and graduate interns from various disciplines. In addition, the team has access to a variety of experts from McLean Hospital and elsewhere that provide consultation and in-service training to help the staff address the needs of the students. The clinical staff also works closely with outside therapists, families, and schools in the community to address the academic, emotional and behavioral problems that have disrupted a student’s previous education.

Student Quote:

“People at Arlington School notice when I am emotionally crashing and I notice when they are too.  No one has a chance to slip through the cracks.”

Clinical services are an integral part of the Arlington School program. Each student has a clinical case manager who works with that student to help him or her reach social and emotional goals, through individual weekly counseling sessions and additional therapeutic “check-ins” throughout the day and week as the need arises.

The clinical case management team is staffed by psychologists, social workers, a school adjustment counselor and graduate interns from various disciplines. In addition, the team has access to the clinical expertise of other McLean Hospital mental health professionals, who provide consultation and in-service training to the staff.

Clinical staff are available on an as-needed basis throughout the school day to help students cope with difficulties and learn to problem-solve. Clinicians focus their attention on helping students make developmentally appropriate progress on self-awareness, social awareness and healthy decision-making skills. In addition to individual clinical support, every student also participates in a weekly counseling group to work on their goals in a peer context.

The clinical staff takes the intellectual, social, physical, aesthetic, emotional, and ethical development of each student into consideration from the time of intake throughout that student’s tenure at the school.
