The technical and aesthetic development of Arlington School students in photography, media, studio art, drama and creative writing is one of the great strengths of our program.
Talented Arlington School students compete each year in a juried show held by the Small Independent School Art League (SISAL) of New England, invariably winning multiple awards for their work. Our photography students have earned community recognition for their work in outside competitions.
Creative writing and language arts students participate in literary contests throughout the year. Students have also published their work in national literary journals for high-school students, the school literary magazine, Wordly Visions, and the school newspaper. In addition, students participate in the annual play performed for an outside audience. We also send students to compete in the Speaking Shakespeare contest held annually by the English-Speaking Union.
Arlington School students who focus on the arts have won admission to prestigious art school programs including MassArt and Carnegie Mellon. Students also find the arts to be a bridge to high school students in other programs. Through these activities students are exposed to the artwork of their peers, find a wider audience for their own work, and find that their work can hold its own when compared to that of students from other quality arts programs.
